really?

my amazing artist friend jen and i both applied for a local arts festival (won't name names, but really how many "local" ones can there be way out here?!).  i was kind of nervous (even though i got into my last one with no problemo) because the application kept emphasizing "only fine art and fine craft pieces accepted."

so i'm thinking cool, photos are fine art. and the jewelry pieces i submitted were the ones where i hand-wired the beads, hooked them into a necklace and fixed on my fanciest little bottle caps. and jen's stuff is always supercool and amazing. its a local festival so i thought i might as well enter even though i never really like any of the stuff i see there (other than the cute, tiny asian girl who makes jewelry with cord & beads.)

but jen and i both get our emails today.....the freaking "i'm gonna shit on your artwork and cover it with pink glitter and tell you it was a hard decision, but we hope you apply again next year and continue to support us!!" emails. WTF!?

*calmness*

apparently pottery, ugly beaded jewelry and metallic-flecked glass pendants (the ones you see on sale for $2 at hobby lobby but nobody wears) are what make up a "balance of fine art media."

yep, those are the ones!

well, i suppose in that case all i have to say is "THANK GOD!" that my stuff is not what the entry panel gravitates toward & praises each year. i knew i wasn't super interested in this show for a reason...that's probably it. jen, we're just too much for this little town.

but regardless, i sent a very polite email inquiring as to what particularly could improve the chances of my pieces being accepted for inclusion in the future. not that i actually plan to apply again next or even show up this year to see the same ol' booths i've seen the last 5 years.  but i think an explanation is fair.

on a brighter note....zumba'd tonight and bought some well-deserved pizza for dinner. and getting ready to order prints to hang at the dusky jewel and the 2010 Oklahoma Symphony Show House!!

suck it stillwater!
